|The season of fear has come to end but new horror games are upon the horizon. There are a few games horror fans can expect in the coming future. Some are the return of familiar classics but gamers could also expect original works.
Already PS3 horror fans have been treated to The House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut. This is an updated version of the hit Wii game that combined the gameplay of a rail shooter with the elements of a 70’s exploitation film. PS3 version features the same gameplay with new HD cinematic and levels along with 3D compatibility.

In March; horror fans could expect a return to Raccoon City with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Going back to tragedy, gamers will take on the role of an Umbrella Security Service operative sent to cover up the company’s involvement or a US Delta Force deployed to expose the truth.
Or if Raccoon City was never a place you desired than be ready for a return to Silent Hill. Konami is in the works for an eight installment in the series along with an HD upgrade of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. In Silent Hill: Downpour, gamers will take on the role of an inmate who after surviving an accident stumbles into the eerie world of Silent Hill.
Another horror game to look out for is inSANE, which has an expected release date in 2013. THQ has teamed up with horror icon Guillermo del Toro (director of Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth) to introduce a new style of survival horror. All that is known is that this will be the first in a trilogy; but any horror fan knows Guillermo del Toro + horror game = a twisted fairy tale.
Horror fans could also expect the return of The Best of Gaming Horror next October. So long as there are horror games that fascinate us, horror junkies like myself will always be around to critique and admire all they accomplish.
