|Today let's take a stroll down memory lane to recall that old classic Castlevania. This game was released by Konami in 1986 for NES, and immediately became a best seller. You play the role of Simon Belmont, latest in a long line of vampire hunters who is on a mission to destroy that most heinous of vampires, Count Dracula. Simon has to make his way through the castle with his whip (named Vampire Killer), battling the minions of the dark the whole time.
If you were a kid with a Nintendo in the 80's, chances are you played the heck out of this game. If you are kid from any other decade, chances are you have still played one of the games in the exceedingly long Castlevania franchise. Between 1986 and 2013, a new Castlevania game has been released almost every year, and some years have multiple releases. That's 41 different Castlevania games in the last 27 years! Obviously Konami did something right when they made this game. Despite having difficulties bringing the game from 2D to 3D, Konami has never stopped trying to improve. From the original to the most recent version, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, this game has been giving gamers the creeps for years.
There's just something oddly satisfying about whipping the undead into submission that keeps us coming back for more. Watch out for the bats though, they are out for blood. Oh, and don't forget to look inside the candles for power-ups. Everyone knows that vampires stash their goodies inside candles and leave them laying around the castle. What you might not realize is that the Castlevania series is as immortal as Dracula himself. It's even infected your iPhone. Check out the latest in the series, a puzzle/RPG app by, of course, Konami.
