A Beautiful Disaster: Vindictus
Launched in late 2010 Vindictus is a Free to Play, Action-RPG. The game uses the Source Engine, which was developed by Valve Corporation originally to run Counter Strike and Half Life 2, but now is used in current games such as Portal 2. Because of this, Vindictus is a very pretty looking game with fluid movement for your button mashing skills.
League of Legendary Elitism
League of Legends, from Riot Games, is an online strategy game released in 2009 but continues to have a strong player base. While the game is based on the Defense of the Ancients (DotA) map for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne the setup is completely unique.
Did ‘Homefront’ predict the future?
The premise of Homefront is that North Korea has successfully invaded an economically and politically crippled United States using an EMP bomb. The idea of an invasion of America may feel like John Milius reusing the plot of Red Dawn, but North Korea in possession of an EMP has become a deadly reality.
A Brief on Pirates of the Burning Sea
My first experience with Pirates of the Burning Sea was at Gen Con several years ago when I first got to play an early beta. At the time I was very much looking forward to this game, but a year later I somehow missed its launch and completely forgot about it until recently.
The Best of Gaming Horror Part IV. – “Dino Crisis”
With 2.75 million units sold; Resident Evil became one of the most successful games for PlayStation and soon grew to become one of the most iconic game franchise. So it was no surprise that Capcom teamed with director Shinji Mikami again to make a new horror survival game. The result was Dino Crisis.
The Best of Gaming Horror Part V. – “Manhunt”
During this season of fear; The Best of Gaming Horror has discussed games that have pit gamers against the worst creations of science, the undead, and creatures from other worlds. But we always seem to forget that humans can be the most terrifying demons of all.
The Best of Gaming Horror: The Future of Gaming Horror
The season of fear has come to end but new horror games are upon the horizon. There are a few games horror fans can expect in the coming future. Some are the return of familiar classics but gamers could also expect original works.
Tabletop gaming technology is great, don't forget the physical books
What do you do when you have run out of the books to buy? You go electronic. e-books, PDFs, and other reading formats are growing in strength and validity as our society marches on toward a Cloud based society. While this means you might have more than you know what to do with, you are also watching one of the old standards of mediums pass by.
“Blackwater”: A waste of PR money!
With the war shooter genre being dominated by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3; Blackwater for the Xbox 360 is a game that will be easily overlooked. But unfortunately that is hardly the problem.
Why shooters should stop imitating Modern Warfare
Call of Duty is a unique franchise, for twice in one decade did its revolutionary game-play redefine a genre and set the new standards for other games to follow. One has to appreciate the first time when it broke with the “lone wolf” concept while pushing the Quake III-engine to its limits.
Criterion Collection should take an interest in video games
The Criterion Collection is a production company that is well known for the restoration and distribution of films that have been significant to the cinematic arts. With its partnership with Janus Films; they have been responsible for the distribution of many great classics of world cinema. They have presented American cinephilias with the works of Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, John Woo, and Jean-Pierre Melville while help restore the classic works of Alfred Hitchcock, Stanly Kubrick, and Samuel Fuller.
